Hello, Is it possible Can my period to be late due to stress in life? I am one month late. I have been having my term 3 examinations and have been stressed. What should I do? My mother told me it is because of stress. Is it possible? I am 18 years old. I never missed a period. What should I do?

@toby Yes, stress can delay a period. I would recommend you to wait for a day or two even if you don’t get your period then you should visit a gynecologist. Stress leads to an increase in cortisol, which is a stress hormone. The hypothalamus is the part of the brain that controls your period. It’s sensitive to external factors like exercise, sleep, stress. When working correctly, your hypothalamus releases chemicals that stimulate the pituitary gland, which then stimulates your ovary to release the period-inducing hormones estrogen and progesterone. Stress and depression often cause missed periods. When under stress, your body produces cortisol. Depending on how your body tolerates stress, the cortisol may lead to delayed or light periods — or no period at all.
