Is it normal for benzoyl peroxide to dry skin?

Hi, I have severe acne so my dermatologist suggested me to use a gel that contains benzoyl peroxide. The skin around my mouth is very dry after applying that gel. I contacted him, he said it is common for skin to dry out after applying acne skin. Is it true? Does this happen or is it a side-effect? Is it normal for benzoyl peroxide to dry skin?

@sweetu Hello, Benzoyl peroxide works by peeling away the skin to get rid of dead skin cells, excessive oil, and bacteria that may be trapped underneath. Such effects can lead to dryness, as well as redness and excessive peeling. You might notice itching and general irritation at the site of the application too. over-the-counter acne products and prescription drugs with benzoyl peroxide can really cause dry skin. Everyone who uses it has some amount of dryness, flaking, and peeling. Benzoyl peroxide can make your skin get dry and peel. To counter that, use a good moisturizer. Avoid products that further dry your skinOpt instead of gentle cleaners Or just rinse your face with water. Stop using other acne treatments, too.
