Hi, I am a working woman, 29 years old. I have been suffering from gastritis for long. I find it difficult to digest any kind of non vegetarian food. In my office one of my colleagues has suggested me to have food on banana leaf. She confirms that eating on banana leaf will help in digestion. I am suffering a lot, so I keep trying different tips that may improve my problem. Will eating on banana leaf help in digestion? Please share your understanding.

@gul Eating food served on banana leaves does not require much cleaning as it is enough if it is rinsed a little. Banana leaves are eco-friendly and easily decompose in a short time unlike plastic that takes at least a century to degrade completely. The large size of the banana leaf is an added advantage as it can hold an entire meal. Also, being water-proof it can hold gravies without turning much soggy.
Apart from just serving as a leafy plate, banana leaves are also used for cooking. It is used for wrapping as well. Steaming food along with banana leaves gives a sweet taste to the dish. Banana leaf contains traces of EGCG that are used in dietary supplements. Banana leaves contain large amounts of polyphenols that are natural antioxidants. These are found in many plant-based foods and green tea. Food served on the banana leaves absorbs the polyphenols which are said to prevent many lifestyle diseases. They are also said to have anti-bacterial properties that can possibly kill the germs in food.
